Leo Brouwer, born in Havanna in 1939, is considered the most eminent

honorary member of the UNESCO for his extensive musical work – an
award he shares with stars like Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin or Herbert
von Karajan.
Leo Brouwer studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, and
his first compositions were already published in 1956. His music conjoins
European influences and popular traditional Cuban elements, in the 70s
he also experimented with avant-garde tendencies. Furthermore Leo Brouwer
worked as a professor and as an orchestra leader. Besides his compositions
for the guitar he also wrote chamber music, orchestra and choire works
as well as diverse movie sound tracks.
